Bright Star

BRIGHT STAR is a charming folk musical inspired by the true story of “The Iron Mountain Baby” of 1920's Missouri. It tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920's and 40's. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives, unfolding in a rich tapestry of deep emotion. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, BRIGHT STAR is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful, contemporary but with an old soul. The show’s commitment to a strong sense of community and interweaving plot and players is felt within its visceral storytelling, music, and lyrics. “What Could Be Better?”

Bright Star is hopeful, communal and lasting. The show's journey is one of love, redemption, and a tale of how our individual stories weave together as part of a collective humanity. Riverhead Faculty & Community Theatre is incredibly proud to produce the Long Island premiere of this excellent piece of spirited theater, inspired by a true story and written by actor/performer Steve Martin and musician Edie Brickell.

Director Justin Harris and the show's production team believe this is a special production that has a natural home here on the east end. The strong sense of community the show exhibits resonates through our own hometown and families. The poetic lyrics and musicality of the show's folk orchestrations enrapture the audience's ears and hearts as a family's history is developed, destroyed, rediscovered and reborn.

We hope you will come to the show and feel our love and joy as we tell this story.
